I am a native of the Lowcountry of South Carolina. I have been writing since I was a very young child. I grew up in a family filled with rich stories, so storytelling and poetry came easily to me. It didn't take long for me to see how fortunate I was to be living in the Lowcountry, and it seemed a natural fit for me to set my stories and poems in the beautiful world around me.
I was educated at Charleston Southern University where I received a bachelor's degree in English and a master's degree in English/Education. For years I taught at a local high school, but I took a few years off to establish my writing career. Recently, however, I have returned to teaching, and I am blessed to be teaching a great group of students at Woodland High School. My tenth graders are always teaching me things I didn't know (about what it's like to be a teenager), and my journalism students inspire me every day. I pray that I am able to be a blessing to all my students as they are to me.
I am immersed in the local writing world. I belong to the Lowcountry Romance Writer's of America, the Summerville Writer's Guild, and Romance Writers of America (amongst others). I am very proud to belong to (what I think) is the best critique group in America. They keep me and my writing honest.
I have had numerous poems published in local literary magazines. In December of 2005, I was included with other local writers in an anthology called A Gathering of Flowers. In addition I write book reviews for The Charleston Post and Courier.
My greatest love is writing novels set in the South Carolina Lowcountry. I have completed four manuscripts; I have five works in progress, an overview with six synopses for a series and I have about twenty-five book blurb ideas for additional projects. I just pray that God gives me the time to get them all on paper (That's a lot of people screaming to get onto the page!).
I live in Summerville, South Carolina, with my husband, Marshall. I have two children (Holly Carder and Clayton Carder), two step-children (Lauren Sweatman and Chase Sweatman) and a precious granddaughter (Morgan Sweatman, aka Baby Angel). In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, traveling and playing golf; however, my favorite pastime is reading a good Southern novel.
